Fuzzy Butt Innovations LLC (FBI LLC)
We started FBI llc as a company to help people wanting to bring new ideas to market. As people who have navigated the maker space, taking new ideas to patent, then on to manufacturing after that, we know this can be a daunting task. We can help with the required steps while coaching you around the legal pitfalls that can trip up unsuspecting people and keeping your IP patentable and under your control.
We offer services, “piece meal”. Meaning you can get help from us only in the areas where you need help. If you only need help getting your ideas to drawings, we can help with generating the required CAD. If you just want to get your idea physically into your hands, we can handle the 3D printing or machining to make that a reality. If your idea just doesn’t function as you desire we can help with product development and revisions to make your idea a reality. Then if desired we can help you get your ideas through the patent process or even manufacturing.

Birth of Cardboard Piranha
The Problem That Started It All
We (FBI LLC) were approached by the plant manager of a large logistics company stating they could not find a suitable safety knife for their operation. Users were getting injured at a rate of three to five lacerations a month and the knife they had been using was discontinued. We told them we would be happy to design a knife for them. The logistics company offered to bring one of the knives they were using to us but we told them we didn’t want to see it. We wanted to start fresh with no external inputs from previous knives.
Designed From Zero, Built for Safety
Within three months, we were walking into our local patent attorney with a working prototype for the safety mechanism in our knife. After initial patent searches, we proceeded to get our provisional patent and begin sales to the initial customer while 3d printing the knife. During the next year, we continued to make improvements and revisions, finally settling on our current design and applying for a patent.
Engineered for Real-World Logistics Work
The Cardboard Piranha was designed to be “The Knife” for Logistics companies and others that open lots of boxes per shift. We started with an ergonomic design that could work for large dock or warehouse workers and still fit the hands of a small female fork lift driver.
The fingers and thumb are kept away from the cutting edge and the shape of the grip allows use with or without gloves. The shape of the grip also means the knife is controllable without having a super firm strong grip on it.
Smart Safety
The safety mechanism of the knife is unlocked by the box itself, making it transparent to the user. As you pull the knife the blade guard rolls into the knife allowing the blade to cut with the guides of the knife keeping the cut in the correct location as you go around the box. If the knife leaves the cardboard for any reason a guard snaps over the blade and locks preventing injury. Pulling the knife towards you means you can use larger muscle groups avoiding fatigue.
Simple Maintenance
When the blade begins to dull blade changes are accomplished with a thumb screw. No tools needed. Spare blades can be held in a compartment on the back of the knife. Meaning you can have an entire shift worth of blades in your hand at the start of the day.
Blade depth of cut can be 1/4” or ½” depth of cut so if you are cutting open boxes of steel blanks boxed in double thick cardboard we have you covered there as well.
If you are a small time operator or you only open a box or two a day you may not need the Cardboard Piranha but if you are a logistics professional and open boxes all day long this knife was designed for you
Proudly made in Louisville KY, we are producing right and left handed versions of the knife in various colors. Options with lanyards and pocket clips will be available soon.
